ROC's SkillsUSA chapter, spearheaded by the ROC Cisco Networking Academy, had a little something special planned for South Mount Vernon this Veterans Day ...

Recently through a partnership between ROC, Bakersfield College, and industry, select students were given the opportunity to participate in an event called Entree to Employment. The purpose of the event was to give students interested in a particular career pathway a chance to have a formal dinner with industry partners from the sector in which they are interested.

ROC recently hosted 30 community members for the KHSD’s annual Principal Partners Day event. Industry partners and postsecondary partners got a chance to learn about all of the opportunities provided to ROC students that will help to prepare them to be successful on their career path.

Congratulations to our latest batch of ROC students for their wonderful showing at the Kern County Fair. These students are certainly putting their skills education to the test at a very early age!

The Kern High ROC SkillsUSA Chapter representatives Eric Gonzalez and Brian Andriano joined other SkillsUSA California State Officer team members at this year’s Washington Leadership Training Institute (WLTI) in Washington D.C. in late-September.

Kalah Kohfield-Stout with the Kern High ROC FFA chapter showed her two lambs, Petal and Felix in this year's Kern County Fair. During the Suffolk Market Show Kalah placed 2nd in both her classes and qualified to compete in the final drive for Champion Suffolk. Congratulations Kalah!

One of the tenants of the ROC is to put students in real world situations that allow them to learn the skills that will help them develop into young professionals. Recently the students in the Vet Tech program with the guidance of their two instructors, Dr. Hudek and Ms. Rogers, had an opportunity to put that practice into play.

Recently the Regional Occupational Center (ROC) had seven students qualify for national competitions through the SkillsUSA organization. SkillsUSA is a national students leadership organization focused on closing the skills gap in the American workforce.

Having just earned his certificate from ROC's Pharmacy Tech program, Luis Pineda was ready for the next STEM challenge. He was one of the 10% of applicants to be selected to participate in this year's 'REVS UP' summer program at CSUB.
