Program Description

Pharmacy Technicians assist licensed pharmacists in preparing prescription medications, delivering patient care through customer service, and handling administrative tasks in a pharmacy environment. This course introduces pharmacy practice and the technician’s role across various pharmacy settings. Key topics covered include medical terminology and abbreviations, the top 200 medications and their uses, pharmacy law and ethics, prescription and medication orders, and an overview of the healthcare system. In the second semester, eligible students will have the opportunity to participate in an internship, gaining hands-on experience in a local pharmacy setting.

 

CREDIT AVAILABLE:

Meets area “G” approval for UC and CSU admissions.

10 high school elective credits per semester

 

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

Pharmacy Technician students must demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing comprehension. Additionally, they should possess strong mathematical skills, including the ability to multiply and divide fractions and perform basic conversions. To be considered for a second-semester internship, students must be at least 18 years old at the start of the internship, possess a valid Social Security number, obtain fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice, and pass a drug screening.
