Evening Sports Medicine Injury Care
Program Description
This two-semester course is offered exclusively during CTEC's evening session. The Injury Care and Management program provides entry-level knowledge in preventing and treatment of athletic injuries. Injury Care Specialists treat professional and recreational athletes, as well as people with disabilities and those who wish to increase their mobility and physical capabilities. This course provides instruction in topics related to the field of Sports Medicine. These topics include prevention, treatment, taping, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, anatomy, cell and tissue structure and response to injury, body systems, exercise physiology, therapeutic modalities, therapeutic exercise, pharmacology, nutrition, and kinesiology.
This course helps students prepare for the NASM-Corrective Exercise Specialist (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certification exam. The cost of the exam is waived for students who are enrolled and complete the course.

Certifications offered to students completing the Sports Medicine: Personal Training program include:
- Sport Medicine – Injury Care & Management Certificate of Completion
- NASM-Corrective Exercise Specialist (opportunity to take exam)
- CPR & AED (BLS) Certification (opportunity to take certification test)
CSU BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE CREDIT AVAILABLE:
Sports Medicine – Injury Care & Management is a dual enrollment class with the following CSU Bakersfield Department of Kinesiology courses:
- KINE 1018: Lifetime Fitness (2 Units)
- KINE 1020: First Aid & CPR (1 Unit)
- KINE 1545: Foundations in Functional Movement (1 Unit)
- KINE 2000: Introduction to Kinesiology (3 Units)
- KINE 2100: Sports Medicine I: Care & Prevention of Athletic Injury (3 units)

This is a career awareness class that instructs students on the basics necessary for entry-level employment. Successful Injury Care & Management students can pursue careers in the following:
