Evening HVAC

Program Description

Gain the skills to layout, install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems in this one-year program! Develop hands-on skills in commercial and residential HVAC disciplines, including air-conditioning system installation, furnace and heat pump servicing, ductwork fabrication and installation, electrical controls, refrigerant handling, indoor air­quality diagnostics, and system commissioning. You will also gain an understanding of safety, proper use of hand and power tools, blueprint reading of mechanical schematics, load calculations, and HVAC industry operations. 

HVAC Program students learn:

  • System sizing & load calculation

  • Ductwork layout, fabrication & installation

  • Refrigeration cycle principles & service

  • Furnace/heat-pump installation & troubleshooting

  • Electrical controls, thermostats & sensors

  • Indoor air-quality diagnostics & ventilation strategies

  • Preventive maintenance & system commissioning

  • Blueprint reading & mechanical drawing interpretation

Certifications Available:

  • HVAC Certificate of Completion

  • OSHA 10

  • EPA 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification

  • First Aid/CPR Certification

  • S/P2 Safety Certifications

Things to Consider:

  • Dress code is closed-toed shoes (preferably work boots with a thick sole) and jeans/canvas‐style pants.

  • If you prefer to avoid working with tools, elevated platforms, or are easily distracted by electronic devices (e.g., cell phones), this class is probably not for you. This class has a no-cell phone policy.

Credit Available:

  • Meets area “G” approval for UC and CSU admissions

  • 10 high school elective credits per semester
