Fire Technology Students Gain Real-World Experience During Wildland Field Day

CTEC’s Fire Technology program recently took training to the next level during Wildland Field Day, giving students hands-on experience in real-world firefighting operations. The day-long event challenged students physically and mentally, as they hiked two miles through steep terrain, practiced mobile hose operations, and cut fire lines using professional tools.

Throughout the experience, students also learned the specialized callouts, terminology, and procedures used by active wildland firefighting teams, providing valuable insight into the communication and coordination necessary during emergency operations.

Local fire crews and volunteers played a crucial role in the day’s success, dedicating their time and expertise to guide students through each exercise safely and effectively. Their mentorship gave students the opportunity to practice skills in an authentic setting and understand the responsibilities and teamwork required in the firefighting profession.

Wildland Field Day exemplifies CTEC’s commitment to hands-on, career-focused education, preparing students for future careers in fire services and public safety. By participating in real-world scenarios and learning from experienced professionals, CTEC Fire Technology students continue to build the confidence, skills, and knowledge needed to become the next generation of firefighters.

A special thank you goes to all local crews and volunteers who made this immersive learning experience possible.
