On September 11th, students from the Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) and Regional Occupational Center (ROC) honored the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, by participating in the Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. This event served as a tribute to the heroic efforts of the first responders who bravely climbed 110 stories, or 2,200 steps, in an attempt to save lives during the tragic events at the World Trade Center.
The memorial event brought together students from the Fire Technology, Law Enforcement, and Logistics & Distribution programs, in partnership with students from the Digital Marketing & Media Design program and the SkillsUSA Kern High Chapter. The event commenced at the CTEC campus, with students and staff proceeding to the Independence High School football stadium, where they embarked on a 2,200-step journey up the stadium’s bleachers. Each step symbolized the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of the firefighters who responded on that fateful day.
In a show of solidarity and support, local emergency services personnel and military members, invited by the Fire Technology, Law Enforcement, and Logistics & Distribution programs, joined in the memorial stair climb. This collaboration highlighted the strong community ties and mutual respect between ROC CTEC students and local service members. Students from the Digital Marketing & Media Design program and SkillsUSA Kern High Chapter promoted the event, prepared snack packs, and documented the day's activities.
The Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb was more than just an event; it was a powerful reminder of the resilience and unity that define our community. As these young students took their steps, they did so in honor of the past and with hope for the future.
