3. Train a Student Intern

The KHSD ROC has established a network of over 200 business and industry partners that provide “community classroom” training at their place of business. Once students have reached job entry proficiency levels in the classroom, these worksites assist students in honing their skills as well as acquiring additional competencies in a real-world environment.

Students report to your worksite during regularly scheduled class times (up to 12 hours per week), with the ROC providing transportation as needed. There is no-cost or obligation on the part of the worksite and student interns serve at-will. All trainees are covered under school district liability and worker’s compensation insurance. Furthermore, ROC instructors are in regular contact with site supervisors to ensure trainee success. For employers so inclined, the opportunity also exists to compensate students via a Career/Technical Cooperative Education agreement.

As an extension of their actual classroom, all students receive a grade and credit toward high school graduation for their training efforts. Business and industry partners serve as coaches and mentors for students, many of whom get hired as a result of their training experience.
