Intro to Health

 

 

 

 

Program Description

The Introduction to Health course provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the healthcare industry. In addition to earning college credit through Bakersfield College in Medical Terminology and Introduction to Health Science, students will gain practical experience by job shadowing in our community classroom. High-achieving 11th-grade students will receive priority consideration for advanced CTEC programs, including Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Pharmaceutical Technician, Dental Assistant, and a choice of either Sports Medicine Personal Training, or Injury Care Management.

 

CREDIT AVAILABLE:

Meets area "G" approval for UC and CSU admissions.

10 high school elective credits per semester

MEDS B37 - Medical Terminology (3 units) 

HSCI B17 - Introduction to Health Science (3 units) 

MEDS B52 – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Healthcare Providers (.5 units)

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

In the Introduction to Health Careers program, students are expected to have at least average skills in math, science, and English, alongside solid attendance. A uniform, including scrubs, is part of the dress code for specific days.

  • Resume & job application skills

CERTIFICATIONS AVAIABLE:

  • Intro to Health Careers program Certificate of Completion 
  • CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
