Are you interested in a fulfilling career to make a safe workplace a thriving workplace? In this program, you will be prepared for a broad-based Safety profession in industries such as Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Agriculture, Solar, Food Processing, Construction, and General Industry. Most of those just entering the workforce do not realize that every organization is required to have an Occupational Safety and Risk Manager to oversee the safety of the company to ensure that all employees return home safely.
This program is designed to further develop your knowledge and understanding of health, safety, and environmental management while stressing its importance in the workplace.
The program focuses on the following key objectives:
  • How to navigate a career path in Occupational Safety and Risk Management with an annual salary range of $60, 000 - $150,000
  • Fundamental skills necessary to promote safety and risk management within the workplace
  • How to recognize and mitigate hazards in the workplace using continuous improvement methods
  • How technology plays a part in today’s safety environment with mobile applications
  • How to develop and conduct an effective safety meeting
  • Behavioral theories and the human factor in safety
  • Creating and improving employer safety programs
  • Sharpening communication, writing, and research skills
  • Opportunity to obtain certificates for CPR, First Aid, Forklift Operations, Manlift Operations, Confined Space Awareness, and Hazardous Communication Awareness
This program will be more than just training in safety theory. You will have the opportunity to perform hands-on skills as well as do internships with a local business. This is where the rubber meets the road, and you will experience first-hand how the safety profession is an intricate part of every organization.

The fall semester of this program offers 3-units of BC credit to all students and 10-units of KHSD credit to current high school students.
