Program Description

Law enforcement officers are our front line of defense against the criminal element in society. This course is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of the criminal justice system and essential skills in maintaining public safety. Covering a range of topics, students will explore the complexity of law enforcement, gaining practical knowledge and hands-on experience in various aspects of the field. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to explore involvement with cadet programs for BPD, KCSO, or California Highway Patrol.

DRESS CODE: Physical training attire – black shorts, plain white t-shirt and running shoes. Please refer to the program page for additional policies and procedures (industry standards) of the classroom.

Credit Available:

Meets area “G” approval for UC and CSU admissions.

10 high school elective credits per semester or 5 elective and 5 math (waiver) credits

 

Bakersfield College (Dual Enrollment)

CRIM B1 Introduction to Criminal Justice - 3 Units (fall semester only)

CRIM B5 Community Relations - 3 Units (spring semester only)

CRIM B9 The Juvenile Justice System - 3 Units (spring semester only)

CPR/First Aid .5 units (fall semester only)

Basic Weaponless Defense (.5 units)

Basic Baton (.5 units)


Students Learn:

·         Introduction to the Criminal Justice System

·         Extensive Daily Physical Training – Sports physical required prior to beginning the course.

·         Extensive Report Writing

·         Defensive Tactics

·         Baton Training

·         Use of Force

·         Community Policing

·         Criminal Investigation Techniques

·         Ethics and Professionalism

·         Simulation Exercises

·         Ride Along with BPD – Students must pass a criminal background check.

·         Community Service hours (10)

·         Guest Speakers and Field Trips


Certifications Available:

·         Law Enforcement Program Certificate of Completion 

·         CPR/First Aid Certification

·         Basic Weaponless Defense Certification

·         Basic Baton Certification

 

WORKOUT EXAMPLES:

The following workout activities are examples of what is expected of each student.

·         Weightlifting routines

·         Obstacle courses

·         Body weight exercises (push-ups, pull-ups, squats, lunges, etc.)

·         Agility drills, including jumping a six-foot wall and fence.

·         Dragging a 165-pound dummy to simulate real-life scenarios
