Honoring Those Who Served

The ROC Cisco Networking Academy program is heavily involved with SkillsUSA, a Student Leadership Organization, so when the student leaders decided to do a monthly Community Outreach Project each month of the school year, the idea of recognizing those who have served our nation this Veterans Day seemed like a natural.

The SkillsUSA Creed: "I believe in the American way of life. I know our culture is the result of freedom of action and opportunities won by the founders of our American republic, and I will uphold their ideals.

With this creed and their commitment to a service project in mind, the students decied do honor our veterans by placing 90 flags along South Mt. Vernon Avenue for all to see as they drove by Regional Occupational Center and Bakersfield Adult School. The results were inspiring as passerbys throughout the day were able to both remember our soldiers and see our students' commitment to their country and their organization's creed.

A special thanks goes to Boy Scout Troop 350 for donating the flags for our use and Cisco Networking Academy instructor Nathan Urmston for pulling together all the pieces.
