Ely is a small town in northern Nevada, with a rich history in cinema. Each year, organizers of the Ely Film, Art, and Music Festival put out the call for student filmmakers across several states to participate in their competition. This year, two outstanding student films produced by the Video Production students at CTEC, earned awards at the annual event. “Humdrum” took top honors in the 13 – 18-year-old film category, and the short film “ Re-Tying the Knot” won the prestigious First Lady of Nevada award, given by Kathy Sisolak, Governor Sisolak’s wife.
The “Re-Tying the Knot” production crew has fond memories of creating the short film, saying it didn’t feel much like a project, because it was so fun to work on. They agreed that it was a great opportunity to have their work seen by a much larger audience, including people living in other states. “It was a lot of hard work and time spent editing”, said Jasmine Roberts, actress and main editor on the film, “but it really paid off and we are all very proud of our work.”
