Summer 2019 high school programs

Welcome to ROC's CTE High School Summer Classes


These Career Technical Education (CTE) classes are open to all incoming 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. All classes provide students Kern High school elective credit. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis.


Classes run from 7:30am to Noon and are held at ROC (501 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue). Transportation is NOT provided.


Classes are taught by ROC instructors, all of whom are both CTE state-credentialed teachers and seasoned professionals within their respective industries.

Certified Personal Trainer Preparation Course  3 Weeks – June 3 to June 21   5 units

Personal Trainers are health/fitness professionals who, using an individualized approach, assess, motivate, educate and train clients regarding their personal health and fitness needs. This course helps students prepare for the certification examination.


Introduction to Welding   6 Weeks – June 3 to July 12 (no class July 4th)   10 units

Learn the basic welding processes, shop safety, welding history and processes.  Students will learn basic welding and cutting processes such as oxyfuel welding and cutting, shielded metal arc welding (stick), gas metal arc welding/ flux core arc welding (MIG), and gas tungsten arc welding (TIG).


Fire Fighting  6 Weeks – June 3 to July 12 (no class July 4th)   10 units

At some point in their life, most boys and girls want to be firefighters. The thrill of the red lights, siren, and hero factor all play into the attraction. Deep down, firefighters are born with a desire to serve the community. Come live the dream this summer ...
