Sports Medicine: Injury Care & Management
Program Description
The Injury Care and Management program provides entry-level knowledge in preventing and treatment of athletic injuries. Injury Care Specialists treat professional and recreational athletes, as well as people with disabilities and those who wish to increase their mobility and physical capabilities. This course provides instruction in topics related to the field of Sports Medicine. These topics include prevention, treatment, taping, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, anatomy, cell and tissue structure and response to injury, body systems, exercise physiology, therapeutic modalities, therapeutic exercise, pharmacology, nutrition, and kinesiology.
SPORTS MEDICINE: INJURY CARE & MANAGEMENT STUDENTS LEARN:
- Prevention, treatment, taping, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
- First response to injuries
- Anatomy and body systems
- Cell and tissue structure
- Therapeutic exercise
- Pharmacology and nutrition
- Kinesiology

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITIES
Certifications offered to students completing the Sports Medicine: Injury Care & Management program include:
- Sports Medicine: Injury Care and Management Certificate of Completion
- CPR (BLS) Certification
HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT AVAILABLE
Students earn 15 general elective units each semester toward their high school graduation.
College prep course. A-G approved. Meets area “G” approval for UC and CSU admissions.
CSU BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE CREDIT AVAILABLE
Sports Medicine: Injury Care & Management is a dual enrollment class with the following CSU Bakersfield Department of Kinesiology courses:
- Sports Medicine 1: Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, KINE 2100 - 3 units
- CPR, First Aid, and AED, KINE 1020 - 1 unit
