Welcome to Career Technical Education Center (CTEC)
Construction is underway for the Kern High School Districts newest career training center, the Career Technical Education Center (CTEC). CTEC will be the sister campus of the Regional Occupational Center that has provided high quality training to KHSD students and adults since 1985. The programming format at CTEC will follow the same model as ROC, with programs serving high school juniors and seniors for a 3 hour class in either the morning or afternoon. Students will spend half of their school day at CTEC and the other half at their homeschool. Adult training options will also be available at the facility. The campus is located adjacent to the north side of Independence High School and is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2019.
CTEC will host a wide variety of high quality training programs that will include elements such as industry certifications, technical and career readiness skills, and the ability to earn both high school and college credits. Students will learn about the career they are interested in through training industry specific labs. Programming will be offered in healthcare, technology, public service, supply chain logistics, and more. A complete listing of programs slated for CTEC can be seen below.
All CTEC programs will prepare students for post-secondary education and the workforce. Students will leave CTEC with the critical thinking skills, technical expertise, and career readiness skills that will allow them to thrive in the ever changing economy. Through innovation and collaboration the programs at CTEC will be nimble enough to change as industry needs change. The training opportunities that are provided at CTEC will strengthen our local workforce for generations to come and provide amazing opportunities for our students and community.
